Four Reasons to Hire a Modular Operating Theatre

At ModuleCo Healthcare, we’re passionate about sharing the benefits of hiring a modular building. Today’s offsite construction methods have come a long way from those prefabricated structures found on the schoolyard and now offers a viable alternative for businesses in both the public and private sectors.

Within the healthcare industry, reports show that there is significant scope to employ modular construction methods as a way of speeding up the delivery of 40 new hospitals. The backlog of non-elective care in the wake of COVID-19 is rising and the NHS isn’t equipped to keep up with demand. Modular buildings are an effective way to tackle this capacity issue without placing financial strain on NHS Trusts.

With this in mind, our Managing Director, Alan Wilson, has shared four key reasons why you should consider hiring a modular theatre.

1. Time-saving

Time is of the essence for our healthcare sector as they look towards a COVID-free future and implementing timely solutions to support NHS workers as essential services resume will be vital.

The delivery of modular facilities is both quick and efficient, with buildings delivered in a matter of weeks and the entire lifetime of a project less than half that of a traditional construction build.

Facilities are designed, built and quality checked in a factory-controlled environment, and can be installed on-site and made patient ready in weeks. This approach allows NHS Trusts to benefit from new facilities as soon as possible and is an attractive option for healthcare providers needing to adapt quickly to an increased demand for services.

2. Quality guaranteed

Today’s modular facilities are permanent, robust structures that are well equipped to respond to the needs of the largest and busiest NHS Trusts. Working alongside our manufacturing partner, ModuleCo, we aim to create modular buildings that are manufactured for life and provide a high-quality environment to work in.

Thanks to our years of experience in delivering modular healthcare facilities to NHS Trusts up and down the country, all of our modules are fully HTM and HBN compliant. What’s more, we work collaboratively with the NHS workers who will be using the facility on a day-to-day basis to ensure it is bespoke, state-of-the-art and fit for purpose.

3. Cost-effective

Public sector budgets are often allocated to longer term projects, leaving little opportunity for funding immediate, shorter term requirements. This is where hire agreements could be ideal for decision makers in healthcare, since they remove the requirement for upfront capital, instead offering a manageable monthly hire rate via a Hire or Managed Service Agreement.

This revenue option could be essential for hospitals needing to upgrade, update or extend their hospital estate, but lack the budget to do so. With our rental agreement, we can tailor the scheme to suit any financial constraints to ensure the project is affordable for the client.

4. Sustainability

In line with the NHS’s “Net Zero” targets and the need to demonstrate that social responsibility is a priority across all sectors, sustainable projects will find themselves at the top of the national agenda.

Historically, it’s often the sustainable aspects of projects (such as PV panels, alternate heat sources etc.) that are the first to be sacrificed to meet budget requirements. However, an added benefit of hiring a modular theatre is that it allows sustainability to remain at the forefront of the project, with hire costs encompassing key, environmentally friendly additions

What’s more, although modular builds are manufactured for life, they are also designed to be relocatable or even re-adapted to suit alternative needs. They therefore provide the flexibility to not only expand an existing hospital estate, but also the ability to adapt to any shift in  patient or capacity needs, saving approximately 90% of materials against building a new traditional build.
