MCH handover Orthopaedic Suite at the NHS Nightingale Hospital Exeter

ModuleCo Healthcare Limited (MCH) are delighted to confirm that earlier this week we successfully handed over a new Orthopaedic Theatre and recovery facility, which was installed at the NHS Nightingale Hospital Exeter to help tackle waiting lists across Devon and the wider South West region.

After being decommissioned as a COVID-19 hospital earlier this year, the Nightingale was purchased by NHS organisations across the South West. From the new year, the site will host the Southwest Ambulatory Orthopaedic Centre, Devon Diagnostic Centre, a Centre of Excellence for Eyes and a range of rheumatology services.

MCH, alongside our manufacturing partner, ModuleCo, delivered the two orthopaedic theatres and a four-bed first stage recovery suite as part of the regeneration of the site.

The process got underway back in August, with detailed designs being drawn up in collaboration with the local clinical and senior management teams. Once the designs were agreed, the facility was  constructed in the factory, utilising modern offsite construction techniques. This resulted in a significant advantage from a programme perspective, particularly when compared to traditional methods of construction, and will help support the NHS across Devon and the wider Southwest region.

The trust have opted for a 5-year hire of this high specification facility,  avoiding the need for significant upfront capital at a time when public sector budgets are under pressure.

As the new orthopaedic facility was procured rapidly via the NHS SBS Shared Services Framework for modular buildings, it will allow the local trusts to treat patients across the south west sooner, in a world class healthcare facility.

On the successful handover of the facility this week, Managing Director at MCH, Alan Wilson, said: We’re extremely proud to be offered this opportunity to work with the NHS, in what is another project that has been delivered on programme and within budget. Working in partnership with the local NHS team on this project has been a real pleasure, and it once again demonstrates the multiple benefits that offsite construction can bring to the healthcare sector.

Jonathan Brindley, Sales & Marketing Director at ModuleCo, added: This project is a great example of how offsite construction is a time-effective way of creating high-quality, additional capacity for busy NHS Trusts.

We’ve successfully collaborated with our partners, ModuleCo Healthcare, for many years and it’s fantastic to see another project complete!
