Stoke Mandeville Hospital receives new state-of-the-art modular healthcare facility

ModuleCo Healthcare (MCH), has successfully handed over a new Sterile Services Department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This latest addition, will allow the hospital to maintain and improve its own sterile services function, while also providing a service for other NHS Trusts in the surrounding area.

MCH oversaw the entire project from order to handover, including the planning process, asbestos removal, demolition of existing building and the associated foundation works to ensure the modules could be safely installed on site.

The project was a collaboration between MCH, its manufacturing partner, ModuleCo and MMM Medical, which supplied the sterilisation equipment for the new facility.

Plans for the project began in summer 2019, with the entire unit now delivered and fully commissioned ready for the trust to use. As well as supporting the operating theatres at Stoke Mandeville, the new facility will be used to sterilise equipment for other nearby NHS Trusts, providing an additional revenue stream for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, which operates the hospital.

Alan Wilson, Managing Director at MCH, said of the project: “We’re really pleased with the progress we have made on the new sterile services facility at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This project is a real milestone for us, as it successfully demonstrates MCH’s unique offering, where we can deliver all of these works for NHS Trusts from start to finish, anywhere in the UK.

“This is also one of the projects we continued to work on throughout the COVID-19 outbreak. In these challenging times, it’s a real privilege to be able to continue supporting and providing vital facilities to our NHS.

“The collaboration between the Trust and MCH started back in 2004 with the delivery of an outpatient facility. More recently, we have assisted with the design and installation of a Renal Unit and it’s fantastic to continue the partnership and return to the hospital to deliver high quality facilities that fit their needs.”

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is hiring the facility from MCH on a 15-year Managed Services Agreement, and the building was officially handed over on 20th July.

Brian Mitchell of MMM Medical, went on to say: “This was a very exciting project to be involved in, we were involved from the start of the initial design discussions, working with the trust, MCH & ModuleCo to ensure we could create an efficient workflow through the departments. Stoke Mandeville hospital are now in a position where they can increase their sterile services offering beyond its current requirements.

“In today’s climate, it’s more important than ever to help our key workers do their jobs in the safest possible way, so we’re extremely proud to play a pivotal role in supplying a range of Decontamination and Medical Device processing equipment to support the NHS.”
