Work begins on the second phase of our Royal Orthopaedic Hospital project

We’re thrilled to announce that we have started work on phase two of one of our flagship projects, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.

We successfully delivered an impressive theatre and ward complex for the Trust in December 2019 and have since been commissioned to create a second facility this year. This will add another two theatres and an additional 8-bed ward.

While the first phase of the project has already significantly increased capacity and created new jobs in the region, the completion of phase two is set to double these outcomes, allowing the Trust to treat an additional 2,500 patients per year and provide around 130 new jobs in total.

It has been a pleasure to work with the team at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital on this project. As one of the leading orthopaedic hospitals in Europe, with a 96% recommendation rating for patients, our offsite approach during both phases has been and will continue to ensure any disruption to the daily running of the site is kept to a minimum.

With a handover target of December, our team is working extremely hard to ensure the new facilities can be patient-ready before Christmas.

All of our modules are designed, built, assessed and snag checked in our factory in Mitcheldean, with help from our manufacturing partner, ModuleCo. Using detailed designs to envisage the end product, the offsite process is extremely useful in quickly adapting to problems as and when they arise and building in solutions to these before delivery on site.

From preparing the groundworks, working with the client to produce detailed 2D and 3D designs through to the delivery and installation of the modules on site, we offer a full suite of services to complete all aspects of the project and our expertise means we can confidently handle the entire process. Our work at ROH is no different.

Building long-term relationships with our clients is integral to our offering as a business, and our collaboration with the team at the Royal Orthopaedic is a true testament to this approach. We’re working very closely with teams at the hospital and obtaining feedback from NHS workers to make sure our facilities are fit for purpose and will allow staff to operate in the highest quality surroundings.

We look forward to providing more updates as work moves ahead and will be sharing the final product towards the end of the year.
