Ophthalmic Theatre and Recovery Suite
ModuleCo Healthcare (MCH) successfully delivered a new state-of-the-art Ophthalmic Theatre and Recovery Suite for St Mary’s Hospital, part of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. The dedicated facility was manufactured offsite by our manufacturing partner ModuleCo, before all 6 modules, including a dedicated plant room, were shipped to the island.
The Trust required a designated facility for Ophthalmic care to increase their surgical capacity and address their current backlog. This new high-specification theatre comprised of an Ophthalmic Theatre together with two separate male and female recovery suites.
The facility was crucial to addressing the hospitals backlog, since it allowed the current theatre being utilised for Ophthalmic surgery to be released to carry out additional elective procedures. A modular construction approach was presented to the Trust, since it allowed the facility to be deployed within a much shorter timeframe than that of a traditional build, allowing the backlog to be tackled a lot sooner.
In addition, the ability to utilise one of MCH’s flexible hire solutions allowed the Trust to benefit from the state-of-the-art facility without the need to generate the upfront capital, which may have taken significant time via traditional funding and procurement routes.
MCH delivered the project in just 20 weeks from order to handover, with up to 90% of the manufacture and pre-install quality checks being completed off site in a controlled factory environment, prior to the facility being shipped over to the island.
The installation of the facility was carried out during a weekend to minimise disruption to the live hospital site, allowing the care and service provided by the hospital to continue as normal.
Mr Philip Moradi, Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust said:
“The new theatre is an incredible opportunity to deliver high volume modern cataract surgery in a 21st century setting.
“Our patients will also benefit from reduced waiting times, there will also be over £2million investment into the theatre, including pre-operative cataract analysis equipment, a 2-step treatment pathway to surgery, a dedicated retina and cataract suite and the ability to access virtual clinics.”
